This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and safeguard data when you use authorloft.com and any author websites hosted on our platform ("the Service").
For authors, meaning people who create an AuthorLoft account, AuthorLoft is responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
For readers, meaning people who visit an author's website, subscribe to an author's newsletter, download a resource, or make a purchase, the author is responsible for the personal information you give them, and AuthorLoft processes that information on the author's behalf. If you have a question about how a particular author uses your information, please contact that author. You can also contact us and we will help.
Information you provide directly. When you create an account, subscribe to an author's newsletter, make a purchase, or contact us, we collect information such as your name, email address, and any other details you choose to provide. Authors also provide content such as biographies, book details, images, and course or music information.
Payment information. Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the Service we collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device and operating system, referring pages, the pages you view, and how you use features. We collect some of this through cookies and similar technologies, described below.
Information you enter into AI tools. If you use the AI writing and marketing tools in the author dashboard, the text you enter is sent to an AI provider to generate suggestions, as described below.
We use the information we collect to: - Provide, maintain, and improve our services - Process transactions and send related information, including purchase confirmations and invoices - Send you technical notices, updates, security alerts, and support messages - Respond to your comments and questions - Send marketing communications (you may opt out at any time) - Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities in connection with our services - Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents, and diagnose errors - Comply with legal obligations
Essential cookies. We use cookies that are necessary to operate the Service, such as keeping you signed in, protecting your session, remembering that you have seen our legal notices, unlocking a download you requested, and recording an affiliate referral on an author's site. These do not require your consent.
Your analytics choice. When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics. We store your choice in your browser. If you accept, we use PostHog for product analytics, such as page views and feature usage. If you decline, PostHog does not run. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Cookieless analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits in aggregate. It does not use cookies.
Error monitoring. We use Sentry to detect and fix errors. When an error occurs, Sentry may capture a short recording of the screen to help us diagnose it. All text is masked and media is blocked in these recordings, so what you type and what is displayed are not captured.
Google tag. Our pages include a Google tag that we may use in the future to measure advertising. All of its storage is denied by default, and analytics storage is enabled only if you accept the banner. We do not currently run advertising campaigns. If we begin to, we will update this policy first and will use advertising cookies only with your consent.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you do, some parts of the Service may not work properly.
Some author tools, such as the book description writer, SEO helpers, and social post generator, send the text you enter to Google's Gemini API to produce suggestions. Authors may also connect their own Gemini API key. Please do not enter sensitive personal information into these tools. We do not intentionally send reader personal information to AI providers.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows: - Service providers that help us run the Service, under contracts that require them to protect it: Stripe (payments), Supabase (database hosting), Vercel (hosting and cookieless analytics), Resend (email delivery), PostHog (analytics, only with your consent), Sentry (error monitoring), and Google (AI features and the Google tag). - Authors. If you subscribe to an author's newsletter, make a purchase, or contact an author, we provide that information to that author. - Legal authorities when required by law or to protect our rights, safety, or property. - A successor if AuthorLoft is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you of any change in how your information is handled.
AuthorLoft is based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where we transfer information from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
We keep your personal information for as long as your account exists or as needed to provide the Service. Cancelling a subscription, downgrading, or receiving a refund does not delete your account or your content: your account moves to the Free plan, as described in our Terms of Service. If a downgrade leaves you with more published content than your new plan allows, the extra items are unpublished after a 30-day notice period, not deleted, and are restored if you upgrade.
If you ask us to delete your account, or we terminate it, we delete your account and content, generally within 30 days. We retain transaction and billing records for 7 years to meet tax and financial requirements, and support correspondence for 2 years. Newsletter subscriber data is deleted along with the author’s site. Copies may remain in backups for a short period after deletion.
You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and hashing of passwords. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, email privacy@authorloft.com. You may opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in each message. Newsletters you receive from an author on our platform come from that author, and each includes an unsubscribe link. We will still send you account, security, and transactional messages.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an AuthorLoft account. Our services are not directed to individuals under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, please contact us at privacy@authorloft.com and we will delete it promptly.
If you are a resident of California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Montana, Delaware, Iowa, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland, Indiana, Kentucky, or another U.S. state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have additional rights over your personal data, including the right to know, correct, delete, and port your information.
We do not sell your personal data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on our platform and updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
