Here's what we shipped to help you turn what you know into a course — and sell it from a site you actually own.

If you've been teaching on Udemy, Skillshare, or Teachable, you already know the trade-off: they bring the traffic, and in exchange they keep your student list, dictate your pricing, and take a cut of every sale. You built the curriculum. They own the relationship. Course Creation flips that. It's live on AuthorLoft today, and it works exactly like the rest of the platform — you build it, you host it, you keep what you earn.

🎓 Build a course your way

Every AuthorLoft site now supports full courses, not just books. Structure yours the way real curriculum works: a course made up of modules, each module made up of lessons, and each lesson able to carry its own video. Whether you're teaching watercolor technique, freelance writing, or how to run a small business, the course editor gives you the same organized, section-by-section structure your students expect from a proper class — not a flat pile of files.

Add your title and tagline, build out your first module, drop in your first lesson, and you're live. It's the same "get to done fast" philosophy as publishing a book on AuthorLoft: a short, guided path to your first published piece of content, not a blank page and a manual.

📥 Already teaching elsewhere? Bring it with you

Starting from scratch isn't the only option. If your curriculum already exists — in a spreadsheet, exported from another platform, or just organized in your notes — you can bulk-import it instead of rebuilding it lesson by lesson. Upload a CSV with your modules and lessons mapped out, and AuthorLoft will build the full course structure for you automatically, matching column headers even if they don't line up exactly with our template.

Every import lands as a draft first, so nothing goes live until you've reviewed it. And if you re-import the same file later — say, after cleaning up formatting — it won't overwrite your last upload or throw an error; it creates a fresh, reviewable copy so you're always in control of what actually publishes.

This is the fastest way to move a course you've already built somewhere else onto a site you own, without retyping a single lesson title.

🌐 Your course lives on your website

This is the part that actually matters: your course doesn't live on someone else's marketplace. It lives on your AuthorLoft site — the same site your books, your bio, and your audience already live on. That means one place for people to find everything you make, one brand, and one relationship that belongs to you, not a platform that could change its algorithm, its cut, or its rules tomorrow.

Want it on your own domain instead of a subdomain? AuthorLoft supports self-serve custom domains now too — connect a domain you already own (from Namecheap, GoDaddy, wherever) and we handle the routing and verification. Your course platform can carry your name, not ours.

💰 Sell it your way

Because it's your site, it's your pricing. Set what your course is worth — not what a race-to-the-bottom marketplace decides it's worth next to a thousand competing listings. Checkout is built in, and every purchase captures your buyer as a subscriber on your list, not a platform's — so when you launch your next course, you're not starting from zero.

Running a promotion? Discount codes now work across your entire catalog — books, bundles, and courses — so a single code can span everything you sell, or you can scope one just to a course launch. And once students finish, they can leave ratings and feedback that show up right on your course page, giving new visitors real social proof before they buy.

🔍 Get discovered

Your own site is home base, but AuthorLoft also gives your course a second front door: the public Bookstore, where visitors browse content from independent creators across the platform. Courses have their own dedicated section there, organized by category — Writing & Publishing, Creative Arts, Business & Marketing, Personal Development, and more — so someone looking for exactly what you teach can actually find it, filter to it, and click through to your site to buy.

If you're already an AuthorLoft author with books published, this is a natural next step: pair a book with a companion course for recurring revenue on the same audience. If you're new to AuthorLoft and coming from a course-only background, welcome — books are optional, courses stand entirely on their own.

📣 Behind the scenes

Course Creation is available starting on our free plan (up to 5 courses), with Standard opening that up to 25 and Premium going unlimited — the same tiering shape as everything else on AuthorLoft. If you're not sure which course to start with, the same guided completion checklist that walks book authors through cover, description, and buy link now has a course-creator equivalent: title, first module, first lesson, and you're live.
